Megvii Launches AI-Powered PIR Sensor Solution for Smart Cities, Deployed in Guangzhou

Megvii Technology, a leading AI company in China, announced on November 4 the launch of its “PIR+AI” smart city sensing solution, which has been officially deployed in Guangzhou’s Tianhe District Smart City Project. The solution integrates Megvii’s MV-PIR3000 sensor with its Face++ AI algorithm platform, covering 500 public areas including parks, squares, and pedestrian streets.

The MV-PIR3000 sensor can detect crowd density, movement direction, and abnormal behaviors such as stampedes and falls in real time, with a data update frequency of 10 times per second. The AI platform analyzes the sensing data to generate crowd flow prediction reports, providing decision support for urban management departments. During the 3-month trial period in Guangzhou, the solution helped reduce public safety incidents by 40% and improve crowd management efficiency by 60%. “PIR sensing is a cost-effective way to collect urban spatial data,” said Yin Qi, Megvii’s CEO. “We’ve signed cooperation agreements with 10 other cities including Shanghai and Shenzhen. By 2026, we plan to deploy the solution in 50 cities nationwide, covering 10,000+ public areas.”
