Silicon Labs Launches EFR32xG28-PIR Wireless SoC for PIR Sensors

June 2, 2026 – Austin, TX – Silicon Labs Streamlines Wireless PIR Sensor Design

Silicon Labs has announced the EFR32xG28-PIR, a new wireless SoC that integrates a PIR analog front-end with a low-power radio, enabling single-chip wireless motion sensors with 10+ year battery life.

Key Features:

  • Integrated PIR AFE: Dual-channel PGA (40-80dB), 16-bit ADC
  • AI accelerator: 20 GOPS for on-device motion classification
  • Radio: Bluetooth LE, Zigbee, Thread, Matter, proprietary
  • Power: 3 µA sleep (PIR monitoring), 5 µA deep sleep
  • Supply voltage: 1.8V to 3.8V
  • Package: 5mm × 5mm QFN
  • Price: $2.49 (10,000 units)

The SoC includes a dedicated neural network accelerator that can run pre-trained models for human vs. pet discrimination, activity recognition, and environmental noise rejection.

“The EFR32xG28-PIR eliminates the need for external op-amps and comparators,” said Matt Saunders, VP of IoT Products at Silicon Labs. “This reduces BOM cost by 40% and PCB area by 60%.”

Samples are available now, with volume production scheduled for Q1 2027.
