June 15, 2026 – Munich, Germany – Infineon Expands Sensor Portfolio
Infineon Technologies has announced its entry into the PIR sensor market with a new automotive-grade line of pyroelectric sensors. The sensors are specifically designed for child presence detection systems, addressing the 2028 US Hot Cars Act mandate.
The new sensor line, designated the XENSIV PIR series, features AEC-Q100 qualification and an extended temperature range of -40°C to +105°C.

Strategic Importance

Infineon has secured contracts with three major European automakers for 2028 model year vehicles, representing approximately 5 million sensors annually.
Availability
Samples are available now, with volume production scheduled for Q1 2027. Pricing starts at $3.50 in 10,000-unit quantities.
Infineon’s entry into the PIR sensor market adds another major player to the automotive segment, competing with Panasonic, Murata, and Excelitas.
