PIR sensor supply chain constraints are easing as new production capacity comes online, according to supply chain analysts. Lead times for standard PIR modules have returned to 4-6 weeks, down from peak levels of 20+ weeks in early 2026.
Key capacity additions include:
- Panasonic’s new factory in Poland (opened March 2026) adding 50M units/year
- Murata’s expansion in the Philippines (commissioned July 2026) adding 150M units/year
- Multiple Chinese manufacturers adding approximately 200M units/year combined
Total global production capacity is now estimated at 1.8 billion units per year, sufficient to meet current demand of approximately 1.4 billion units.
“The supply chain has normalized faster than expected,” said a supply chain analyst. “Manufacturers responded quickly to demand signals, and the new capacity has been brought online ahead of schedule.”
However, analysts caution that automotive demand for child presence detection systems may create localized shortages in 2028 as the Hot Cars Act deadline approaches.
