June 17, 2026 – Seattle, WA – Amazon Bridges Sidewalk and Matter Ecosystems
Amazon has announced that Sidewalk-compatible PIR sensors now support Matter 1.4, the latest version of the universal smart home standard. The update enables Sidewalk sensors to work with Apple Home, Google Home, Samsung SmartThings, and other Matter-certified platforms.
The Matter 1.4 specification includes enhanced occupancy sensing features, including configurable sensitivity and hold time. Sidewalk sensors can now report occupancy status to any Matter-compatible hub through a Thread border router.
“This integration gives customers more choice,” said an Amazon spokesperson. “You can use a Sidewalk PIR sensor with your existing smart home system, regardless of platform.”
Existing Sidewalk-compatible sensors from Ring, YoLink, and Monoprice will receive a firmware update over the next 30 days to enable Matter 1.4 support. New sensors shipping after August 1, 2026 will have Matter support pre-installed.
Amazon also announced that the Sidewalk Developer Kit has been updated to simplify Matter certification for third-party sensor manufacturers.
