IKEA VALLHORN Wireless Motion Sensor Gains Zigbee2MQTT Support

March 24, 2026 – IKEA VALLHORN Now Compatible with Zigbee2MQTT

The IKEA VALLHORN wireless motion sensor (model E2134) has been added to the Zigbee2MQTT compatibility list, allowing users to integrate the sensor with Home Assistant and other open-source smart home platforms [citation:4].

The sensor exposes several data points through the Zigbee2MQTT interface:

  • Occupancy (binary) – indicates motion detection
  • Illuminance (numeric, unit: lx) – measured ambient light level
  • Battery (%) – remaining battery level
  • Voltage (mV) – reported battery voltage

Users have reported that using 1.2V rechargeable batteries resolves many connectivity and false-positive detection issues, as the sensor can be sensitive to the 1.5V of standard alkaline batteries [citation:4].

The VALLHORN’s built-in lux sensor saturates at 1364 lx, meaning any incident light above this level – common in direct sunlight or bright overcast conditions – will still be reported as 1364 lx. For outdoor deployments, users should treat 1364 lx as a “≥” indicator [citation:4].

The sensor supports OTA (Over-The-Air) firmware updates, and the Zigbee2MQTT integration includes configurable options such as illuminance calibration, identify timeout, and no_occupancy_since reporting intervals.

Pairing is accomplished by pressing the pair button 4 short times, with a red LED indicating pairing status. The sensor is available through IKEA stores and website.
