Panasonic Launches New Flat PaPIRs+ Sensor with 416 Detection Zones

January 27, 2026 – Panasonic Industry Launches Revolutionary Flat PIR Sensor

Panasonic Industry has announced the launch of its latest innovation in PIR motion sensors: the Flat Wide Detection Type (12 lens), the first product incorporating the new PaPIRs+ technology. The sensor is engineered for modern building automation, professional lighting control, and smart home markets. [citation:1][citation:2]

The Flat Wide Detection Type features a sleek, discreet flat lens that seamlessly integrates into aesthetically demanding applications. Its wide field of view of 136.4° × 135.4° maximizes coverage, reducing the number of sensors needed and simplifying installation.

Key Specifications:

  • Maximum coverage: Ø15 m at 3.0 m ceiling mounting height
  • Detection zones: 416 (gap-free motion detection)
  • Lens diameter: 32.6 mm
  • Current consumption: four variants from 1 µA to 170 µA
  • Output interfaces: digital (open-drain) and analogue (op-amp)
  • Operating temperature: –20 °C to +60 °C
  • Lens color options: white, pearl white, and black

By redesigning the pyroelectric elements, PaPIRs+ delivers twice the sensitivity compared to the previous PaPIRs generation, enabling reliable detection of very small movements across a large area. The sensor has been tested for tangential, radial, and minor motion under standardized IEC63180 measurement norms. [citation:10]

“Our new Flat Wide Detection sensor exemplifies the fusion of flat design with outstanding detection performance,” said Robert Spiegler, Lead Product Manager Industrial Sensors at Panasonic Industry. “It detects very small movements of not only moving but also sitting individuals across a large area, making it perfectly suited for office environments, hotels, or public offices.” [citation:2]

The lens form factor is identical to Panasonic’s existing High-Bay Aisle “Ultra-Wide and Long-Distance Detection Type” sensor, allowing for design consistency across product ranges. The flat lens design also supports O-ring sealing for enhanced IP ratings. [citation:1]

Availability: The new Flat PaPIRs+ sensors are available now through Panasonic distribution channels.
