March 11, 2026 – New Radar Presence Sensor Expands Matter Occupancy Sensing Options
What’s Matter Inc. has introduced a new radar presence sensor certified for Matter 1.4, providing an alternative to traditional PIR motion sensors for occupancy detection [citation:5].
The sensor uses Thread communication for connectivity and operates via Type-C power supply. It is certified under Matter specification version 1.4, with certificate ID CSA259DCMAT47406-24 [citation:5].
Product Details:
- Firmware Version: 1.0
- Hardware Version: WM-2025-RPS1.0
- Transport Interface: Thread, Bluetooth
- Primary Device Type ID: 0x0107 (Occupancy Sensor)
- Certification Date: September 30, 2025
Unlike PIR sensors that detect motion, radar-based sensors can detect presence even when occupants are stationary by detecting micro-movements such as breathing. This makes them suitable for applications where seated or sleeping occupants need to be detected.
The Matter certification ensures interoperability with Apple Home, Google Home, Amazon Alexa, and other Matter-compatible platforms. The sensor joins a growing ecosystem of occupancy sensing devices supporting the Matter standard.
This launch reflects the expanding landscape of occupancy detection technologies available to smart home users, with radar offering complementary capabilities to traditional PIR sensors.
