NXP Announces PIR Sensor with Integrated NFC for Easy Commissioning

NXP Semiconductors has announced a new PIR sensor with integrated NFC (Near Field Communication) for wireless configuration. The sensor can be commissioned using a smartphone without powering up the device.

  • Power: 2 µA standby, 1.8V to 3.6V

Installation Workflow

  1. Installer taps phone to sensor before installation
  2. Sets configuration parameters via mobile app
  3. Mounts sensor (settings stored in non-volatile memory)
  4. Sensor operates without needing network connection for setup

“NFC configuration eliminates the need for DIP switches or smartphone pairing during installation,” said NXP’s product manager. “Installers can pre-configure sensors at their desk.”

Samples are available now, with volume production scheduled for Q1 2027.
