NXP Semiconductors has announced a new PIR sensor with integrated NFC (Near Field Communication) for wireless configuration. The sensor can be commissioned using a smartphone without powering up the device.

Installation Workflow
- Installer taps phone to sensor before installation
- Sets configuration parameters via mobile app
- Mounts sensor (settings stored in non-volatile memory)
- Sensor operates without needing network connection for setup
“NFC configuration eliminates the need for DIP switches or smartphone pairing during installation,” said NXP’s product manager. “Installers can pre-configure sensors at their desk.”

Samples are available now, with volume production scheduled for Q1 2027.
