STMicroelectronics Releases Ultra-Low Power PIR Signal Conditioning IC

June 19, 2026 – Geneva, Switzerland – ST Expands Analog Portfolio

STMicroelectronics has announced the STHS34PF80, a dedicated signal conditioning IC for pyroelectric infrared sensors. The new IC features ultra-low power consumption of just 1.5µA, making it ideal for battery-powered motion sensors.

Key Features

  • Power consumption: 1.5 µA in active mode
  • Supply voltage: 1.7V to 3.6V
  • Gain range: 40-80 dB programmable
  • ADC resolution: 16-bit sigma-delta
  • Interface: I2C (up to 1 MHz)
  • Package: 2.5mm × 2.5mm QFN
  • Price: $0.89 (1,000 units)

Integrated Features

The STHS34PF80 integrates all analog front-end components needed for PIR sensors, including programmable gain amplifier, filters, ADC, and motion detection logic. An on-chip interrupt output can wake a microcontroller when motion is detected.

Target Applications

  • Battery-powered wireless motion sensors
  • Energy-harvesting IoT devices
  • Smart home occupancy sensors
  • Security systems
  • Automatic lighting controls

“The STHS34PF80 reduces PIR sensor power consumption by 70% compared to discrete solutions,” said Luca Radaelli, Marketing Director at ST. “This enables multi-year battery life for wireless motion sensors.”

Availability

The STHS34PF80 is available for sampling now, with volume production scheduled for Q4 2026. Evaluation boards are available for $49.
