This article explains why and how to fix it.<\/p>\n<h2>Why Sunlight Causes Problems<\/h2>\n<p>The sun emits a broad spectrum of infrared radiation, including the 8-14\u00b5m band that PIR sensors detect. When direct sunlight hits the sensor:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><strong>Saturation:<\/strong> The pyroelectric element becomes saturated with IR, reducing its sensitivity to changes.<\/li>\n<li><strong>DC offset:<\/strong> Strong IR creates a large DC signal that can bias the amplifier out of its linear range.<\/li>\n<li><strong>Heating:<\/strong> The sensor housing heats up, causing thermal expansion and drift.<\/li>\n<li><strong>Moving shadows:<\/strong> Clouds or objects moving in the sunlight create changing IR patterns that mimic motion.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h2>Symptoms<\/h2>\n<ul>\n<li>Sensor works at night or in shade but fails in direct sun.<\/li>\n<li>False triggers when sun moves or clouds pass.<\/li>\n<li>Reduced range during sunny periods.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h2>Solutions<\/h2>\n<h3>1.
