Humans emit black body radiation peaking around 9.7 \u03bcm.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Block Time<\/strong>: The period after a detection during which the sensor ignores further motion, also called lockout time.<\/p>\n<h2>C<\/h2>\n<p><strong>Common-Mode Rejection<\/strong>: The ability of a differential sensor to cancel signals that affect both elements equally, such as ambient temperature drift.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Curtain Lens<\/strong>: A Fresnel lens that creates a narrow, long-range detection pattern, like a curtain.<\/p>\n<h2>D<\/h2>\n<p><strong>Detection Range<\/strong>: The maximum distance at which the sensor can reliably detect motion.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Digital Output<\/strong>: A binary output (HIGH\/LOW) indicating motion detection.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Dual Element<\/strong>: A sensor containing two pyroelectric elements connected differentially.<\/p>\n<h2>E<\/h2>\n<p><strong>EMI (Electromagnetic Interference)<\/strong>: Electrical noise that can cause false triggers in PIR sensors.<\/p>\n<h2>F<\/h2>\n<p><strong>False Trigger<\/strong>: A detection event caused by something other than intended motion, such as a heat source or electrical noise.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Fresnel Lens<\/strong>: A compact lens that focuses infrared onto the sensor element and defines the detection pattern.<\/p>\n<h2>G<\/h2>\n<p><strong>Gain<\/strong>: The amplification factor applied to the raw sensor signal.<\/p>\n<h2>H<\/h2>\n<p><strong>Hold Time<\/strong>: The duration the output remains HIGH after motion is detected, also called delay time.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Hysteresis<\/strong>: A built-in margin to prevent output oscillation near the threshold.<\/p>\n<h2>I<\/h2>\n<p><strong>Infrared (IR)<\/strong>: Electromagnetic radiation with wavelengths longer than visible light, from about 0.7 \u03bcm to 1 mm.<\/p>\n<h2>J<\/h2>\n<p><strong>JFET<\/strong>: Junction Field Effect Transistor, often used as an impedance converter in pyroelectric sensors.<\/p>\n<h2>L<\/h2>\n<p><strong>Lens<\/strong>: See Fresnel lens.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Lockout Time<\/strong>: See Block time.<\/p>\n<h2>M<\/h2>\n<p><strong>Microwave Sensor<\/strong>: A motion sensor that uses Doppler radar, often combined with PIR for dual-technology detectors.<\/p>\n<h2>N<\/h2>\n<p><strong>NEP (Noise Equivalent Power)<\/strong>: A measure of sensor sensitivity; lower NEP means better sensitivity.<\/p>\n<h2>O<\/h2>\n<p><strong>Open Drain Output<\/strong>: An output that requires an external pull-up resistor, common in some PIR sensors.<\/p>\n<h2>P<\/h2>\n<p><strong>Passive Infrared (PIR)<\/strong>: A sensor that detects motion by measuring changes in infrared radiation, without emitting any energy.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Pet Immune<\/strong>: A sensor or lens designed to ignore small animals.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Potentiometer<\/strong>: An adjustable resistor used to set sensitivity or delay time.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Pyroelectric Effect<\/strong>: The generation of an electrical voltage by a material when heated or cooled.<\/p>\n<h2>R<\/h2>\n<p><strong>Repeatable Trigger<\/strong>: A mode where the hold time resets with each new motion event.<\/p>\n<h2>S<\/h2>\n<p><strong>Sensitivity<\/strong>: The sensor&#8217;s ability to detect small motion or distant objects.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Shield<\/strong>: A metal enclosure that protects the sensor from EMI.<\/p>\n<h2>T<\/h2>\n<p><strong>Threshold<\/strong>: The signal level above which motion is declared.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Time Delay<\/strong>: See Hold time.<\/p>\n<h2>V<\/h2>\n<p><strong>Voltage Comparator<\/strong>: A circuit that compares the sensor signal to a threshold and produces a digital output.<\/p>\n<h2>W<\/h2>\n<p><strong>Warm-up Time<\/strong>: The period after power-up during which the sensor stabilizes and may produce false triggers.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Wavelength<\/strong>: The distance between successive peaks of a wave; for IR, typically measured in micrometers (\u03bcm).<\/p>\n<h2>Z<\/h2>\n<p><strong>Zone<\/strong>: A detection region created by the Fresnel lens.
